Did you know that black cats have the lowest adoption rate and the highest euthanasia rate?
In North America, black cats are the most difficult to find a home. Many animal shelters have an entire room devoted to black cats, because so many more black cats are given up and remain unadopted. Most shelters have about 33% black cats at any time and they remain in shelters an average of 25% longer than other cats…and unfortunately that means many are euthanized before they are adopted.
This is likely mostly due to silly superstitions about black cats being bad luck and associated with witches. (Speaking of which, make sure you keep your pets indoors tonight to keep them safe!)
Black cats are actually considered good luck in many parts of the world, including England and most of Europe.
Cats are great companion animals and their purrs are even healing!
Black cats are beautiful and bright!
Please consider adopting a black cat; they need your love!
